Itinerary
Day 01.- Sunday
We will meet you upon your arrival in Quito, and transfer to the Four Stars Sheraton Hotel or similar for overnight.
Day 02.- (Monday) Quito - Galapagos
Departure from Quito or Guayaquil to Baltra airport in Galapagos (Airfare Included). Passengers are greeted by their guides at the airport and transferred to the M/V Galapagos Legend. Lunch will be on board of the M/V Galapagos Legend. In the afternoon you will visit Dragon Hill. After docking, passengers will take a walk to a hypersalinic lagoon located behind a beach which is often frequented by flamingos. The walk then heads up a winding trail to Dragon Hill, which offers a beautiful view of the bay. This area is a nesting site for a large number of land iguanas which were re-introduced by the Charles Darwin Research Station. There is also a Scalesia tree forest. Returning to the ship, you will be welcomed, there will be cocktails and the crew will be introduced to you. At this time a safety drill will be practiced, followed by free time on board. Later the guide will give a briefing in the auditorium about the next day’s activities. Dinner.
Day 03.- (Tuesday) Genovesa Wake up call: in each cabin there are speakers and some light music will awaken passengers. After a buffet breakfast we will disembark at El Barranco (Prince Philip’s Steps) on the island of Genovesa for a walk in the lava terrain. During the walk passengers will observe red footed boobies, frigates, and Palo Santo trees. Returning to the ship, the crew will welcome you with canapés. Lunch, and then in the afternoon you will visit Darwin Bay; wet landing and observation of red-footed boobies, frigates, sea lions, lava gulls and night herons, fiddler crabs. You will have an opportunity to go snorkeling in the bay to observe sharks and rays. Returning on-board you will have free time. Later the guides will give a briefing in the living room about the next day’s activities. Dinner.
Day 04.- (Wednesday) Punta Suarez
Wake up call: in each cabin there are speakers and some light music will awaken passengers. After a buffet breakfast we will disembark at Punta Suarez (Española Island), dry landing and walk on lava terrain. Here as soon as you disembark many species can be spotted up close, among these are the hood mocking bird, and red billed tropic birds. After a short trek you will run into colonies of masked and blue footed boobies, their nesting grounds sometimes overlap with the trail. You will also find Galapagos doves, hawks and swallow-tailed gulls. These birds all come to the Galapagos for their mating rituals. Finally you will visit the blowhole where water shoots into the air at almost 23 m. (75 ft.). Returning on board, the crew will welcome you with canapés. Lunch. In the afternoon, a dry landing at Baquerizo Moreno port on San Cristobal Island. You will visit the Interpretation Center, where you will learn about the natural and human history of the islands through display presentations. The presentation will for more or less one hour. There is some time to shop in town. Returning on board, the crew will welcome you with canapés. There will be free time on board and then the Guides will give a briefing in the living room about the next day’s activities, followed by dinner.
Day 05.- (Thursday) Baltra Beach - Quito
Wake up call: in each cabin there are speakers and some light music will awaken passengers. After a buffet breakfast we will disembark at Baltra Beach (wet landing) which is located north of Santa Cruz Island. Here you will be met by sea lions bodysurfing on the shore, marine iguanas, and sea turtles. You will have the opportunity to swim on the beach; this site is perfect for snorkeling. Return on board the M/V Galapagos Legend to check out and depart for the airport. You will have a flight to Quito (Flight Ticket Included), and will be met upon arrival in Quito and transferred to the four stars Sheraton Hotel or similar for overnight.
Day 06.- (Friday) Quito
Colonial City Tour of Quito(4 Hours approx ). The tour starts in Orellana´s way, and we will drive around the colonial center of Quito to see the stone-carved façade of Ecuador’s House of Congress which depicts scenes from Ecuadorian history. Then we will visit Independence Square, with the Presidential Palace, the Cathedral and El Sagrario. Also we will visit the Church of La Compañía (1605) (if it’s open) with its breathtaking gilded altars (which are considered the finest example of baroque art in America), the church and monastery of San Francisco (1535), and also the art & crafts gallery of Tianguez. Finally, we will drive up to el Panecillo Hill to have a spectacular view of Quito and to see the only winged Virgin in South America. Overnight will be at the Four Stars Sheraton hotel or similar.
Day 07.- (Sathurday) Quito - Home
After breakfast you will transfer to the airport for your flight home, or for your connecting flight to Lima to take an exciting extension in Peru; Cusco and Machu Picchu.
