Paragliding in Chincheros 3D/2 and Tandem Jump 1/2 Day
Itinerary (Chincheros)
Day 1: Cusco - Chinchero - Cusco
At 6:00 in the morning we will travel to Chincheros. You must get up early to catch the rising thermals wafting up the valley walls. You also must rise early in order to see condors. In Chincheros the guide will give instructions, talk about weather conditions, and demonstrate the equipment. We will prepare the parapente, and try running with it. Then we will practice landings by running and jumping over little ledges of a meter high (the first time), then up to five or ten meters, and practice landing. We will return home at noon when the good winds die down.
Day 2: Cusco - Chinchero - Cusco
Returning to Chincheros again at dawn, we will try the small jumps again. If you now know how to land, you can go take a jump of 100 meters. The higher jump really has more to do with flying than with jumping, so now we learn to control the parapente in the air and do slaloms (zigzags). We practice flying at low elevations.
Day 3: Cusco - Chinchero - Cusco
At dawn we go flying. The longest flight will be of 800 meters. We start up at 3900 meters of altitude, and the flight will last some 15 minutes (depending on air conditions). You are always in open frequency radio contact with the instructor so there is no need for panic, and you can ask advice about any problems that arise. We get back to Cusco around 1:00 PM.
Itinerary (Tandem Jump)
Day 1
At 6:00 in the morning we go to Chincheros, take instructions, and try incrementally longer jumps, until a jump of some 500 meters of flight. The guide shows you how to control the parapente in the air and do zigzags (slaloms). We will return to Cusco around 2:00 in the afternoon.
